Local musician Nicholas Hare is the organ recitalist next Tuesday, March 11, in the next recital in a lunchtime series at Marlborough Road Methodist Church in St Albans.
Nicholas was a chorister at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, and read Music at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. After some years spent in music research and teaching, he started a new career in music publishing, going freelance in 1990.
For several years, he was a tenor lay clerk in the cathedral and regularly performs with St Albans Chamber Choir and St Albans Bach Choir. His programme on Tuesday features works by J S Bach, including the Prelude and Fugue in D minor BWV 539, and pieces from the Orgelbüchlein. As a contrast he will play movements from a Mass by Girolamo Cavazzoni with the alternate plainsong verses sung by Tony de Rivaz, formerly a lay clerk in the Cathedral Choir.
The recitals are arranged by the New School of Organ Studies and begin at 12.30pm with light refreshments available.
Admission is free, with a retiring collection in aid of the New School of Organ Studies and the church. For further details, contact (01727) 865979 or e.mail dulciana879@btinternet.com
