Leroy Jones, the legendary trumpeter known to music-lovers as the ‘keeper of the flame’ for his traditional New Orleans jazz, will be performing in St Albans as he tours the UK this month.
The Leroy Jones Quintet will also be joined by two of Britain’s most exciting jazz prospects, Ian Shaw - described by TimeOut as “our finest jazz singer” - and Joe Stilgoe, who is celebrated internatinonally as a singer, pianist and songwriter.
Jones, a bone-fide member of the New Orleans hall of fame has performed in every US city, on every continent and regularly appears on shows such as Late Night, Oprah Winfrey, Conan and the Tonight Show.
He said: “The Leroy Jones Quintet sound sums up all those great experiences and influences and gives me a chance each night to make sure that th great music of New Orleans is performed authentically and with great respect for the artists who came before me. Not in an old-fashioned way, but with a modern swing that comes from my love of bebop and other forms of modern jazz.”
The Alban Arena welcomes the Leroy Jones Quintet on Thursday October 29. Visit alban-arena.co.uk/events for tickets.
