MUCH Ado About Nothing is proving popular this year with shows in the West End and at the Globe.
Now St Albans audiences will get a chance to enjoy the popular Shakespeare play with its mixture of humour, tragedy and drama when Rooftop Theatre puts on its version in the open air in Verulamium Park.
The fourth Rooftop production of Shakespeare at the Inn on the Park, it follows Love’s Labours Lost, The Taming of the Shrew and last year, A Winter’s Tale.
As in previous years, the modern-dress production features a cast of professional actors who contrast fast-paced wit and action with intense drama.
Philippa Tatham and Trevor Murphy, who have appeared in previous Rooftop productions, take the roles of the sparring Beatrice and Benedick alongside other actors who have performed before and new members of the company.
Director Simon Bolton said: “The production provides everything you could wish from a Shakespeare comedy from hilarity to tears and our modern dress production makes it completely relevant to a 21st-Century audience.”
The play opens next Thursday, July 7, and runs until Saturday, July 16, with no performances on Sunday, July 10, or Monday, July 11. All performances start at 7.30pm and the venue opens at 6.30pm with the Inn on the Park licensed and selling food.
