A classic tale is brought into the 21st century when The Young Hearts Youth Theatre perform Alice @Wonderland in Harpenden Public Halls this Saturday, July 11.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s well-loved book, the original Alice in Wonderland story is set in modern times and features mobile phones, computers and social media.

Another twist is the use of three different students to represent Alice and show her shrinking and growing taller through the production.

Local actors Carys Welsh, Jenny Bech and Eleanor Hansom all play Alice. Once she falls down the rabbit hole and journeys into a fantastical world, Alice meets an array of strange characters all played by the youth theatre students aged from eight-18 years old.

Young Hearts Youth Theatre is the resident young people’s theatre group at Harpenden Public Halls. Set up by professional actor John Stenhouse, it has been running since 2006 and previous productions include Honk! Guys and Dolls, Oliver! Annie, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast and Bugsy Malone.

Performances are at 2pm and 7pm and tickets for Alice @Wonderland are priced at £9 (£7 concessions), available from the Public Halls box office on 01582 767525 or click here.
