MATT Wates leads his sextet to the Herts Jazz Club on Sunday night, January 29.
Delivering jazz notes with humour and evident pleasure, the combination of two saxes, trumpet and rhythm section is a fairly classic one in jazz and creates a lot of possibilities for an arranger/composer.
As a writer, Matt tries to come up with material that will be fun to play and to create a strong mood.
The Matt Wates Sextet features Matt on alto, Martin Shaw on trumpet, Steve Main, tenor, Leon Greening, piano, Malcolm Creese, bass, and Matt Home on drums.
The club meets at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, from 7.45pm and tickets are 5 for students and under-21s. 13 from www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk/whatsonstage.htmil or 16 on the door.
