A TRIBUTE to JJ Johnson and Kai Winding is being given by trombonists Mark Nightingale and Alistair White at Herts Jazz Club on Sunday.

Arguably the two finest trombonists on the UK jazz scene today, they will be performing music by their own idols with arrangements by Mark Nightingale.

Johnson was one of the first trombonists to embrace bebop music and has long been regarded as one of the leading trombonists of the post-swing era. Along with Danish-born Winding, he exerted a pervasive influence on other jazz musicians through the fifties, sixties and seventies.

Herts Jazz artistic director, Clark Tracey, added: “We’re also really pleased to have the outstanding pianist John Horler at the club for the first time. This band always goes down a storm.”

The club gets underway at 7.45pm at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, and tickets are 11 online at http://www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk/whatsonstage.html, 13 on the door and 5 for students and under-21s.
