SHAKE off the snow and enjoy the spring season at the Maltings Arts Theatre is the message from its business manager Lucy Godfrey.

Lucy unveiled the highlights in the new programme for the St Albans theatre this week including children's programmes, comedy, theatre, hip hop and a Kubrick Film Festival.

New children's companies are coming to the arts theatre this season such as Lyngo with their visual theatre and Tall Stories with their brand of physical story-telling as well as the return of favourites like Imagination Productions, Proteus Theatre Company and Krazy Kat Theatre Company.

Sunday Times columnist Andrew Clover and TV's best-known comic GP Dr Phil Hammond are appearing during the season and theatre includes the award-winning company Inspector Sands with If That's All There Is.

For dance lovers there is Adventures in Anti-Cool, three individual hip hop theatre performances in the same evening.

The arts theatre will be fully involved in the St Albans Festival in June and among the highlights will be a visit from the Paper Birds Theatre Company with their multi award-winning show which tells the moving tale of a young Eastern European girl and her journey to England.

The festival will also feature Devil in The Detail, the inaugural production from a new theatre company led by Toby Wilsher, co-founder of Trestle Theatre.

In addition there will be a Kubrick Film Festival in mid-June featuring the great films of the cinema genius who lived on the Childwickbury Estate between St Albans and Harpenden.

Copies of the new season's programme which also includes film and lunchtime concerts can be obtained from the arts theatre on the second floor of the Maltings shopping centre.
