A purr-fect exhibition for cat lovers is being held at the Museum of St Albans to celebrate the work of artist Louis Wain.
Famous for his cat paintings, it is the 75th anniversary of the death of the Edwardian illustrator who was also a patient at Napsbury hospital, the former psychiatric unit in St Albans.
Two of Wain’s paintings are on display at the Museum of St Albans in Hatfield Road, including A Tea Party at Napsbury which was painted in the 1930s and features a group of cats having tea and biscuits in preparation for playing tennis.
As part of the commemoration events, museum visitors will be able to have their photograph taken in front of a large version of the painting. They will also be given the opportunity to find out more about Louis Wain’s extraordinary life and to create their own work in the painter’s distinctive style.
The exhibition runs until Friday, July 25, and among the Louis Wain themed events are a Paint Like Wain session from 11am to 3.30pm next Saturday, July 19, at a cost of £7. To reserve a space call 01727 819340.
