ORGANISER Arthur Taverner has described a concert on Saturday (12) featuring the London Welsh Male Voice Choir and local soprano Alison Langer as, “a fantastic evening.”
Months of planning went into arranging the concert at Harpenden High Street Methodist Church which sold out within weeks and was in aid of local charity Harpenden Mencap.
The concert, under the baton of musical director Edward-Rhys Harry, included a wide range of songs from their repertoire including three songs from Les Miserables, The Lord’s Prayer by Albert Hey Malotte, When the Saints Go Marching In and finished with everyone joining in the Welsh National Anthem – in Welsh.
Alison’s voice provided a marked contrast and she entertained with songs from West Side Story, The Music Man and La Boheme amongst others.
During its 110-year history the choir has sung at Britain’s most prestigious concert halls and cathedrals including Westminster Abbey and the Albert Hall and their popularity continues to grow.
The profits from the concert will go towards Harpenden Mencap’s new building, Carlton Court, which will provide accommodation in 11 individual flats and is due to be ready this autumn.
