PROLIFIC songwriter Leon Rosselson has chosen St Albans for the launch of his new CD on Sunday.

Despite living in London, he has performed in St Albans many times at concerts, folk clubs and public meetings linked to campaigns.

He is launching his CD A Proper State in a concert in the Abbey Theatre Studio which starts at 7.30pm.

Leon started to write songs seriously and humorously in the 1960s and hasn't stopped since. His early songs were topical/satirical and some were performed on the legendary TV show That Was The Week That Was.

Since then he has absorbed a wide range of influences from Music Hall to French Realist Song. Songlines magazine described him as having, "the passion of Brel, the commitment of Brecht and the wit of Lehrer."

The songs on A Proper State are on subjects ranging from mobile phone conversations to the Trident Nuclear Base at Faslane near Glasgow. The title track, A Proper State, comments on some of the empty ambitions of contemporary life.

Tickets for the concert are £10 with concessions £6 and they can be bought on the door, through the theatre box office on 01727 857861 or on line at www.abbeytheatre.org.uk
