THE Laura Jurd Octet together with the Greg Sterland/Joe Webb Duo play Herts Jazz Club this Sunday, Janury 20.
The third in the club’s successful College Collection programme, supported by the PRS Foundation for Music, brings together an octet and a duet for an evening of contrasts from some of the top young British jazz musicians.
Laura is already making quite a name for herself following the release of her CD, Landing Ground, which was number two in the Guardian’s Jazz albums of 2012.
John Fordham in The Guardian said: “Jurd’s striking themes suggest English, Spanish and Scottish folk melodies, and (on the beautiful Happy Sad Song) something of the wry lyricism of Kenny Wheeler.”
The evening at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, runs from 8pm to 10.30 pm and tickets are £11 in advance from http://www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk/whatsonstage.htm, £13 on the door and £5 for students and under 21s.
