YOUNG pianist Julian Trevelyan is appearing at St Saviour’s Church next Wednesday, June 22, as part of the St Albans Festival.
Julian, 12, who was one of a select band of young pianists invited to participate in the Lang Lang Inspires event at the South Bank last month, is performing the concert at 7.30pm.
The programme includes Claude Debussy’s Sunken Cathedral, a romantic ballad by Brahms inspired by a tragic Scottish folk legend, excerpts from the first Scherzo by Chopin and a couple of sonatas by Beethoven among other works.
Julian, who has held a piano scholarship from Awards for Young Musicians for the last four years, is a senior chorister in the St Albans Cathedral Choir and has sung on stage at the English National Opera in a performance of Carmen.
He has been a member of Pro Corda since 2007, playing the violin, the viola and piano.
Julian is hoping that the generosity of the audience at Wednesday’s concert, which is free but will invite donations to a retiring collection, will boost a fund set up by the Friends of Mid-Herts Music Centre in Hatfield where he studies piano to provide a top-quality instrument for its main hall.
