A ROOF-raising, fund-raising concert by the Kings of Herts and friends delighted a packed house at Harpenden Public Halls recently.
It included Brian Hocken stepping up to lead veteran member Gordon Horne and the audience in a hand-jive to Gene Pitney's Hello Mary Lou.
The Harpenden barbershop singers were joined in the finale by their female counterparts Welwyn Harmony after music and comedy including folk from Fandangle, rock from the Phoenix Blues Band, close-harmony singing from the prize-winning members of Reunion and a virtuoso display of mandolin playing by Alison Stephens who provided the soundtrack for the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
At the climax of the evening, Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Daniel Chichester-Miles handed funds raised to Debbie Fensome representing the MS Society and Sue Hobley for Macmillan Cancer Support.
