SAXOPHONIST Karen Sharp returns to Herts Jazz Club with a quartet on Sunday night.

After taking up tenor sax while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, a friend introduced her to a recording of Dexter Gordon and she was instantly hooked.

In March 2004, she began a three-year stint in Humphrey Lyttelton’s Band which took her to venues across the UK and Europe. She has twice won the tenor saxophone category in the British Jazz Awards but she is equally at home playing the baritone sax.

Karen has developed her own sound and approach and will be joined at the gig at the club which meets at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, by Nikki Iles on piano, Arnie Somoygi on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.

The evening begins at 7.45pm and admission is 11 online at www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk/what’sonstage.html, 13 on the door and 5 for students and under 21s.
