A CELEBRATION of love and romance takes place at the Maltings Arts Theatre next Saturday, March 15, with a visit from baritone John Morgan.

One of Britain's finest and most exciting baritones, he is renowned for his dark-timbred voice and exceptional performances, appearing regularly at Covent Garden and opera houses around the world.

Following a successful tour in the eastern United Stations, John will be putting on Baritone in Love, a collection of romantic arias, ballads and songs, joined by local arts theatre favourites Robin and Kim Colvill.

They will be performing works by Gluck, Schubert, Lehar, Verdi, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Tosti, Delibes, Quilter, De Curtis, Bernstein and Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Baritone in Love gets underway at 7.30pm and tickets at £12 with concessions £10 are available from the box office on 01727 844222.

ää Dale Harris will be putting on a guitar recital at the arts theatre later this month.

An arts theatre newcomer, Dale will be performing classical and Spanish standards, virtuoso showpieces, folk, country, jazz and blues at the performance at 1pm on Wednesday, March 19. It is the latest in the season's lunchtime concerts and tickets are £4.50.

ää A colourful production featuring more than 80 puppets comes to the arts theatre on Saturday, March 22, when Jactito Theatre Company puts on Carnival Child.

Aimed at families with children aged between five and 11, it tells the history and power of carnival using music from South Africa and the Caribbean.

In the production, the Carnival Child's magical powers are needed when she looks into her Crystal Mirror and sees the rainforest - once as rich in life and colour as her beloved street carnival - destroyed by mankind.

The performance starts at 3pm and tickets are £4.50.
