Singer and TV star Jane McDonald comes to the stage of the Alban Arena next Saturday, September 20.

The show, which starts at 7.30pm, features many of her best-loved songs and hits from throughout her career, including her own compositions, medleys and selections from her new album,

Jane started her singing career performing at working men’s clubs across the North of England. After gaining a residency on board the cruise liner The Galaxy, she appeared on BBC docu-soap The Cruise, which followed the day to day running of the liner. The show made her an overnight success and she was quickly signed to Focus Records.

Since then she has gone on to release several albums, her debut reaching number one in the charts. She has performed sold-out shows at The Palladium and presented TV shows for the BBC, including The National Lottery and Star For a Night as well as becoming a regular panellist on ITV’s Loose Women.

A series of films celebrating the life and work of Robin Williams are being shown at the Arena next week.

First up is Good Will Hunting for which Williams won an Oscar for his supporting role as Sean McGuire.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck co-wrote and starred in the drama, about a rebellious 20-year-old university janitor with a photographic memory, who leaves students with the correct answer to a challenging maths problem.

Williams’ character is a therapist who helps the janitor, Will Hunting, face up to both his past and future.

It is being shown at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 16.

The following day, Wednesday, September 17, the Arena is showing The Birdcage in which Williams plays a gay cabinet owner who, with his drag queen companikon, agrees to put up a straight front so their son can introduce them to his fiancee’s right-wing, moralistic parents.

The Birdcage is being screened at 1.30pm and 7.30pm.

The final film at 7.30pm next Thursday, September 18, is Dead Poets Society in which Williams plays English teacher John Keating who is introduced to an all-boys prep school, known for its ancient traditions and high standards.

Using unorthodox and controversial teaching methods, Keating reaches out to his students and with his help, Neil Perry (Robert Sean Leonard), Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke) and others learn to break out of their shells, pursue their dreams and seize the day.
