Actress Emily O’Mahony has been knocking back the G&T in preparation for her leading role in next week’s production of Mike Leigh’s iconic play Abigail’s Party.

She has been working up to the 14 glasses of gin and tonic she has to consume in the play which is being performed by Irrational Theatre at the Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans from next Thursday, April 16, until Saturday, April 18

Mike Leigh received this year’s BAFTA Fellowship for outstanding and exceptional contribution to film and theatre and Abigail’s Party is one of his most famous plays.

It is a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle classes that emerged in Britain in the 70’s. As the alcohol flows, tensions emerge and their obsessions, prejudices and petty competiveness are exposed.

Performances start at 8pm and tickets can be obtained from www.maltingsartstheatre.co.uk or 0333 666 3366
