RETURNING to Herts Jazz Club this Sunday (28) is the Howard Alden Quartet.

Guitarist Howard was born in California, moving to New York at 21 where he soon carved himself a niche as the most noted jazz guitarist of his generation, signing with Concord Jazz and performing alongside some of the greatest names in the business, like Clark Terry, Woody Herman, Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie.

As a result of his associating with – and inspiration from – George Van Eps, he has been playing the seven-string guitar since 1992.

Joining Howard will be Mark Crooks, tenor, Simon Woolf, bass, and Clark Tracey, drums.

The club meets at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City from 8pm and tickets are £5 for students and under-21s, £13 in advance from http://www.hawthornetheatre.co.uk/whatsonstage.html and £16 on the door.
