The gloves were off when a scratch band set out to raise £2,000 for charity by holding a gig in Harpenden in November.
For The Kid Gloves, formed by Nick Pope after the death of his mother Eve from cancer two years ago, smashed through their target and raised £5,100 from the gig at Lourdes Hall. The money has been donated to Macmillan and Children with Cancer.
Nick, who lives in Harpenden, explained that after his mother’s death at the age of 69, he decided to create a band from scratch so they could put on a fundraising event for cancer charities.
He went on: “Although most members of the band are experienced musicians, they used it as an opportunity to learn a different instrument.”
Most of The Kid Gloves are old schoolfriends from St Albans and the fund-raising gig attracted plenty of support from businesses in Harpenden.
Another fundraising gig is planned for around next November but before then The Kid Gloves could be found playing at local events after receiving a couple of bookings after their first outing.
