A CONCERT with a particularly strong local connection is being given by the Lea Singers in Harpenden on Saturday evening.
It is entitled Poets Corner and is a concert of songs and poetry readings based on English literary figures.
The choir has chosen those figures which are represented in the poets area on the east side of Harpenden which comprises Shakespeare Road, Shelley Court, Byron Road and Tennyson Road.
It will feature music by Elgar, Bridge, Vaughan Williams and John Rutter and range from Stanford's serene Bluebird to Rutter's jazzy settings of Shakespeare texts.
The choir will be conducted by Tom Seligman and the songs will be interspersed with poetry readings by Kevin Trainor.
The concert starts at 7.30pm at Fowden Hall, Rothamsted, and tickets are �12 with concessions �10 and under-16s �5 available by calling 01582 761246 or emailing e.j.keen@btinternet.com
