The Harpenden Arts Club annual art exhibition proved to be a real crowd pleaser with 58 sales of artwork, netting total proceeds of £6,300, more than double the previous year’s results.

One of the exhibition organisers, Sarah Poppleton, said: “Harpenden has a great number of very talented artists, and it was wonderful to show work from many who had not exhibited with us before, as well as established contemporary artists. What was particularly gratifying was the high proportion of artists who made sales of their works - more than half of them. But then, they had some beautiful, very original art, so I am not surprised! The people of Harpenden obviously recognize good real art when they see it!”

One exhibition visitor, Adrian Foster, said: “Congratulations to all the exhibitors and organisers for a really good show. The mix of styles from traditional to pop art, to abstract art, with some pottery and glasswork in addition, made it very interesting. I liked the new open layout of the display stands and the way the paintings had been grouped together in complementary themes.”

The Harpenden Arts Club runs a weekly programme of creative workshops, demonstrations, life drawing classes and art practice sessions most Thursday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm in Harpenden Public Halls.
