BRIT award nominee Craig Ogden is performing with de Havilland Philharmonic on Sunday (17) for the last concert in the current season.
The concert at the Weston Auditorium of the University of Herts’ de Havilland campus, will begin with William Walton’s celebratory Crown Imperial, followed by Rodrigo’s guitar concerto – the Concierto de Aranjuez – performed by Craig Ogden.
Australian-born guitarist Craig is regarded as one of the most exciting artists of his generation.
He studied guitar from the age of seven and percussion from 13 and is the youngest instrumentalist to have received a Fellowship Award from the RNCM in Manchester. He has also been Grammy and Classical BRIT nominated for his work.
His Classic FM albums The Guitarist and Summertime, both shot straight to the top spot in the UK classical chart in summer 2010 and 2011 respectively. Craig has performed concertos with all of the main UK orchestras plus many abroad and has presented on BBC Radio 3.
The second half begins with Powerhouse, by Graeme Koehne, and will conclude with Ravel’s Daphnis et Chlo�, a ballet filled with harmonies that are typical of the impressionist movement in music.
