King Kong Format: PS2 Price: £24.99 THE game of Peter Jackson's epic movie has a lot to live up to, especially in the wake of the successful Narnia game. King Kong follows the plot of the current movie almost exactly and, in that sense, will ruin things for you if by some miracle you are not already familiar with the storyline. The majority of the game is played out as a first person shooter (FPS) with you taking on the role of playwright Jack Driscoll. It is here that the game is most enjoyable and in a lot of senses reminded me of how Tomb Raider might have looked had it been a FPS. King Kong attempts to be groundbreaking by making things simpler than we have come to expect from a game of this style. The health bar is removed and instead, to capture the cinematic tension, the screen begins to go red when Jack is in trouble. Furthermore you are considerably limited in ammunition and often find yourself with just a spear against a large dinosaur. Personally I found this quite fun as it made things tense and true to the movie. The times you play Kong act almost as an intermission to the frantic action you experience playing as Jack. I found this side of the game to be the only downside of King Kong. While it was necessary to have a break from the continuous killing of creatures, the action experienced as Kong was overly simple and did become a little dull. A good game with some nice subtle touches. MAT BURTON Graphics: 4/5 Longevity: 3.5/5 Playability: 4/5 Originality: 3.5/5 Enjoyment: 4/5
