A celebrity organ recital by Bine Bryndorf can be heard at St Albans Cathedral next Saturday, November 21.

She is professor of organ at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

There is a French theme running through the 5.30pm recital which begins with music composed by one of her compatriots, Niels la Cour, paying homage to the great French tradition of the Organ Mass.

César Franck’s Pastorale takes full advantage of the orchestral qualities of the new organs being built in Paris in the middle of the 19th Century. Gentle passages of delicate music that sound like oboes and flutes contrast with a dramatic trumpet-like scherzo.

The final piece in the programme is Organ Symphony No.2 by Louis Vierne, one of the great Romantic French organ composers and student of Franck.

The recital has been arranged by the Albans International Organ Festival and artistic director David Titterington said: “Bine Bryndorf is one of the most respected and inspiring organists performing today and so it is a great privilege to welcome her to St Albans this November.”

Entry to the recital is free with a retiring collection in aid of the International Organ Festival Society. After the recital the audience will have the opportunity to meet the soloist at a reception in the North Transept.
