The opening concert of the Spring season of a weekly series of lunchtime concerts will feature local musician Ian Gammie playing viola da gamba and early guitar.
He will perform with The Windsor Box&Fir Co (right), of which he is a founder member, at the concert in St Peter’s Church, St Albans, at 1pm next Wednesday, January 15.
The programme, A Yellow Hair’d Laddie in Paris, is an unusual mixture of 18th Century music from France and the Scottish Highlands and uses period instruments, including two one-keyed flutes and a harpsichord.
For many years Ian has appeared internationally, nationally and locally in such groups as the English Consort of Viols, the Cambridge Baroque Camerata and Café Mozart, among many others.
He also runs a publishing company, Corda Music Publications, and for a long time taught at St Albans School and St Albans High School for Girls.
He has a special connection with St Peter’s as his son David was a choir boy there. Admission to the concert is free with a retiring collection in aid of Grove House Hospice.
