The Road (15)
After the success of No Country For Old Men, another Cormac McCarthy thriller has been adapted for the screen with this bleak and brutal story of a father and son struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic America.
With the cause of the ecological disaster never revealed, the focus is on the pair’s relationship as they travel through a decimated landscape trying to find food while hiding and outrunning other desperate survivors.
Haunting, powerful and oppressive, with none of the darkly humorous relief of No Country, Viggo Mortensen and Kodi McPhee put in strong performances as the father and son who must begin to know one another to live.
