DVD Review: Precious

Precious (15)

Showered with awards and Oscar nominated, this is the story of abused 16-year-old African American Claireece “Precious” Jones, pregnant for the second time by her absent father, secretly illiterate, and a slave to her poisonous mother.

Set in Harlem in 1987, Precious’ world is one of poverty, pain and powerlessness but her strength, resilience and curiosity begin to open up new possibilities and hope for a better future after a teacher offers help.

Honest, raw, darkly-humorous and ultimately joyous, this is a film you won’t forget in a hurry.
