DVD Review: Jane Fonda’s Prime Time: AM/PM Yoga for Beginners

Apparently it’s spring now so maybe you’ve banished wintery thoughts of snugly blankets and hot chocolate and – looking ahead to summer – you’re thinking about getting a bit more active but without leaving the comfort of your own home?

There’s loads of exercise DVDs to choose from now, all promising different things – tighter abs, flatter stomachs, 30 days, seven days, total burn out…

Fitness expert Jane Fonda released her first exercise video back in 1982 – I wasn’t even born then – and was a worldwide success, back on VHS video format! That led to a number of different releases with her last DVD back in 2010.

Now Jane’s back – at the age of 75, yes 75 - with another DVD exercise workout, but this one is yoga aimed at the over 50s, split into short morning and evening workouts.

There’s a series of three AM workouts to kick-start your day and two PM sessions to help to unwind and relax.

The routines are designed to improve your core muscles, increase stability and boost your energy. As a 16-year-old boy I don’t think anything could boost my energy levels, but I must say trying a few of the workouts was fun and I did feel a bit better afterwards. And if you stop, because you’re in your own home – nobody knows!

The routines were varied and the directions were easy to follow, even for an exercise DVD newcomer like me.

Jane is very motivating – especially when you realise she’s had knee and hip replacement operations!

Being specifically catered for the over 50s, I think this DVD could be an easy way for people to up their exercise levels without leaving home and without feeling out of their depth.

Jane Fonda’s Jane Fonda’s Prime Time: AM/PM Yoga for Beginners was released on DVD on 4 March, 2013.
