Leading saxophonist Don Weller returns to Herts Jazz this Sunday, May 11.
With around four decades in the jazz business, Don possesses a unique sound and facility and has been prominently featured with artists like Stan Tracey and Gil Evans. He has worked on film scores such as Absolute Beginners and Stormy Monday, in which he was involved both as a player and composer. He has also been a composer for many years for his quartet and big band.
Don epitomises a generation of UK jazz soloists inspired by the great tenor players from Coleman Hawkins to Coltrane with Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins all being major influences.
The evening at the Hawthorne Theatre in Welwyn Garden City starts at 7.30pm and tickets available in advance from www.hertsjazz.co.uk/currentseason.html are £3 students/£8 members/£10 concessions/£11 full.
