MULTI-talented Deborah Miles-Johnson is to conduct her seventh concert with Carillon Chamber Choir at St Peter’s Church in St Albans next Saturday, June 19.

Deborah, a local professional mezzo-soprano and singing teacher, will be conducting a programme of English and French anthems, part-songs and chansons, both sacred and secular, spanning five centuries.

The concert, which begins at 7.30pm, starts with Aeternae Laudis Lilium by Robert Fayrfax followed by Salve Mater Salvatoris by Jean Mouton.

Next comes Now, O now, I needs must part by John Dowland and to end the 16th Century section, Douce Memoire by Pierre Sandrin.

The concert then moves on to the 17th Century with the motet Salvator Mundi by John Blow and Serve Bone by Charpentier.

From the 18th Century comes Mourn Israel by Handel from his oratorio Saul and Traversez les plus vastes mers by Rameau.

The first half ends with two 19th Century pieces – The Long Day Closes by Arthur Sullivan and Vive le Vin, vive Pluton from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld.

Twentieth Century pieces are performed in the second half, starting with Three Shakespeare Songs by Vaughan Williams and the Trois Chansons by Ravel which are the only short choral pieces he wrote.

The choir will then perform four of the Songs of Springtime by E J Moeran and end with seven of the eight Chansons Francaises by Francis Poulenc based on French folk-songs.

Kevin Vockerodt will accompany the choir on the organ and piano and play three solos.
