A Hertfordshire-based singer of Russian and Ingush heritage will be showcasing her new band at a concert in St Albans.
Folk at the Maltings on Friday, March 2 at 8pm features the Daria Kulesh Quartet, plus singer Ben Moss and New Roots finalists Bow by Bow.
Daria has become well established on the local folk scene since her arrival from Russia, and is now becoming increasingly known nationally.
She is joined in her new band by leading young acoustic guitarist Tristan Seume, pianist Marina Osman from Belarus, and hammered dulcimer player Kate Rouse.
Daria’s debut album, Eternal Child, received enthusiastic reviews and was followed by a second album, Long Lost Home.
This refers to Ingushetia, the Ingush Republic, or Ghalghai Mokh (Ghalghaiche), in the south of Russia, in the Caucasus Mountains and the Long Lost Home of Daria’s grandmother, Fatima Akhrieva.
Daria’s songs are inspired by its immense beauty, unique traditions and harrowing tragedy.
