SEVEN musicians from four countries and two continents will be fusing their rhythms, traditions, roots and raw energy at the Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans next Saturday night, February 26.

The Bush Technologists are an African/Irish fusion with musicians from South Africa, Tanzania, Northern Ireland and the UK.

They create unusual and uplifting sounds by the use of organic instruments from the African bush and the roots of Ireland. Music from the berimbau, marimba, ngoni, tin guitar and the South African mouthbow weaves with bagpipes and tin whistles to create a tapestry of sound which includes rap, reggae, roots, reels and township jazz.

The Bush Technologists were created by Risenga Makondo from South Africa who has performed internationally for more than two decades. He has performed alongside the world’s greatest musicians at Wembley Stadium and is joined by another veteran of the world stage, Kanda Saidi, a multi-instrumentalist from Tanzania.

The band have been playing to sell-out audiences and later this year they will be appearing at arts centres, festivals and community events. The concert at the Maltings is their first in 2011 and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are 12.50 available from the box office on 01727 864511 or online at www.maltingsartstheatre.com
