A CONCERT marking the anniversaries of the births of two great British composers is being given by St Albans Chamber Choir in the city next Saturday, January 19.
Centenary Celebrations, which gets underway at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church, honours Benjamin Britten and the lesser-known George Lloyd.
It will feature the festival cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb, one of Britten’s best-known works which is a setting of the poem Jubilate Agno by Christopher Smart and Lloyd’s final work, the Requiem Mass, finished only three weeks before his death in 1998 and dedicated to the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales.
The choir will be joined by Tom Winpenny, assistant master of the music at the Abbey, and renowned tenor Michael Solomon Williams who will also perform Vaughan Williams’ song cycle On Wenlock Edge with the Wigram Quartet and pianist Susie Arbeid.
