THE Shakespeare play with the most resonance in St Albans is being performed by a professional theatre company at the Roman Theatre, Verulamium, next Saturday, July 11.
Theatre Set-Up pioneered touring Shakespeare in historic sites 33 years ago and is performing Cymbeline in St Albans from 5.30pm.
Shakespeare based the play on real British kings who repulsed several Roman invasions by Julius Caesar. One of those was Cunobelinus who had his capital at Verulamium making it particularly apt that Theatre Set-Up is performing it in the St Albans Roman theatre.
The company claims a particular understanding of Shakespeare's most Celtic play, demonstrated by some unusual scenes, lighting and accessibility to people of all ages. Tickets are 15 for adults and 10 for children, available from the Tourist Information Centre in Market Place on 01727 864511. The audience is advised to bring its own folding chairs, cushions or rugs.
