A PUB crawl with a difference helped a St Albans band raise more than 1,000 for Comic Relief.

The Swanvesta Social Club, a Latin group made up of nine local musicians, performed at five St Albans pubs over the course of last Friday evening.

The band's tour took them to The Peahen, The Spotted Bull, Barney's Bar, The Boot and The Vintry. They played a one-hour gig at every venue and managed to finish on time just before 11pm.

A total of 1,143 was raised on the night and band member Anna Frank said: "We raised an amazing total and special thanks goes to The Spotted Bull, who put a cheque in for 200 before we had even played a note."

For the next Comic Relief event in two years time, The Swanvesta Social Club are hoping to beat the current global record of 29 gigs in 24 hours. To check out their music, visit www.myspace.com/ swanvestasocialclub
