Arnie Somgyi’s band Scenes in the City play Herts Jazz Club this Sunday, October 18.
Drawing its repertoire from the music of the great jazz composer and bassist, Charles Mingus, the band embodies the freedom of interpretation and drive that characterise the music of one of the most important and colourful figures in jazz.
Scenes in the City are expected to play lesser known Mingus compositions as well as familiar favourites such as Boogie Stop Shuffle, Fables of Faubus and Better Get Hit in Your Soul.
The jazz club meets at the Hawrhorne Theatre in Welwyn Garden City from 7.30pm. Tickets available in advance from www.hertsjazz.co.uk/gigs.html are £3 students/£10 members/£13 concessions/£14 full.
On the door they are £5 students/£12 members/£15 concessions/£16 full.
