LOCAL professional violinist Miles Golding and the other members of the Arbutus Quartet will be performing three quartets in a minor key at The Old Library in St George’s School on Saturday.
Don’t expect an evening of unyielding sadness and gloom though, because each composer – Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart, all major composers of the genre – seize the chance to contrast, with typical flair and imagination, the minor key openings with warm and sparkling passages in major tonalities.
And if you’ve never heard a singing string quartet, here’s your chance. They will sing Miles’s arrangement of an appropriate well-known Cole Porter song.
The performance starts at 7.30pm, and tickets cost 12 on the door (students 5).
