GANGNAM style comes to a stable in Bethlehem in an alternative version of the nativity this weekend.

AlterNativity, a ‘pop’ musical written by local actor/songwriter Jill Priest, tells the traditional Christmas Story via songs in different genres of music.

As well as rapping angels and Beyonc-style sheep, the show features the stable animals in a line dance with moves which will be recognised by younger members of the audience as those of PSY – the South Korean star whose You Tube video went viral this summer.

Said Jill: “The aim of this musical is to bring a very familiar story up to date with music and dance styles today’s audience will relate to. Gangnam style has crept into modern culture, so it is reflected in our show too.”

Performed by the OVOTeens – a newly-formed youth arm of OVO Theatre Company, comprising 28 10-14 year olds from around the Herts area – AlterNativity offers family entertainment at 7pm on Saturday with two shows at 3pm and 7pm on Sunday. It is being performed at the Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans and tickets can be booked online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ovo, by telephone on 0844 870 0887 or in person at St Albans Tourist Information Centre.
