Two bands with strong connections to St Albans are due to release new albums on the same day next week.
St Albans band, The Zipheads, featuring cousins Ray and Tom Waters and drummer Will Bennett, are releasing their second album, Z2:Rampage, next Friday, November 11.
And on the same day JOANovARC, made up of musicians from St Albans and Stevenage, are releasing their debut album entitled Ride Of Your Life.
The Zipheads have played numerous gigs across the UK and Europe alongside punk bands as well as opening for 2-tone bands such as The Selecter and The Beat.
They have also found a home in the psychobilly scene including playing festivals across Europe.
In 2013 they released their debut album Prehistoric Beat with their new album slightly darker and heavier in tone. The release party is being held in Camden next Tuesday, November 8, and the band will headline their annual Christmas show at The Horn in St Albans on December 20.
JOANovARC, who have been together for 12 years, describe their music as hard-hitting retooled classic rock with a modern twist.
They have combined influences from AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Joan Jett and Foo Fighters and have performed worldwide.
Their album, a journey through the band’s life until the present day, is produced by Grammy award winner Gil Norton.
Vocalist Laura Ozholl has strong local connections - she went to Garden Fields JMI, St Albans Girls School also learnt to play drums at the St Albans Music School when she was 15.
Ride Of Your Life features 11 tracks and the cover is memorable - it features an image of their naked bodies.
* Parliament’s Rock the House competition winners Concrete Caverns from St Albans have had a busy summer in the wake of their success.
They have played a live session at Metropolis’s Power House, the biggest recording studio in Europe, opened the mains tage at The Village Green Festival in Southend, met Radio X’s Vernon Kay during his breakfast show and headline The Rock the House winners’ show in Balham.
They have been compared to the likes of early Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Kings of Leon and have drawn upon an array of influences for their forthcoming EP.
