A WEEK of films is looming at the Alban Arena with movies ranging from a legal thriller to comedy and real life.

The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Matthew McConaughey as low-rent defence attorney Mickey Haller, is being shown at 7.30pm next Tuesday evening, June 14.

Barely keeping his head above water, representing low-life clients and working out of the back of his car, everything changes when he lands the case of his career – Beverley Hills playboy Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillipe) is accused of the brutal beating of a prostitute.

What appeared to be a straightforward case develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

Next Wednesday, June 15, the Arena is showing Waste Land at 1.30pm and 7.30pm, which follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.

Directed by Lucy Walker and filmed over nearly three years, Muniz creates large-scale mosaic portraits from actual landfill trash which are sold at art auctions and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo.

Aspiring author Eddie Morra, played by Bradley Cooper, is suffering from writer’s block in Limitless which is being shown at 7.30pm next Thursday, June 16.

But his life changes instantly when an old friend introduces him to revolutionary new pharmaceutical NZT which allows him to tap into his full potential. He evolves into the perfect version of himself but forces more corrupt than he can imagine mark him for assassination.

The week concludes with a performance of Arthur at 7.30pm next Friday, June 17, in which Russell Brand reinvents the role of billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on his limitless fortune and the good sense of his lifelong nanny, played by Helen Mirren, to get by.

But when he falls for a woman his family doesn’t like, he stands to lose his inheritance of $950 million.

Tickets for evening showings are 6 with concessions 2 off and 4 for the Wednesday matinee.
