EDWARD Elgar's choral masterpiece The Dream of Gerontius is to be performed at St Albans Abbey. The Hertfordshire Chorus will be joined by the Aurelian Symphony Orchestra for the performance on Saturday, February 18. Gerontius was written in 1900 as a musical interpretation of a poem by Cardinal Newman which describes the journey of a man's soul after death. Also joining the chorus will be soloists mezzo-soprano Valerie Reid, tenor Alan Oke, and bass Graeme Dandy. The conductor will be David Temple.
