CUSTOMERS of a Harpenden art gallery are eagerly awaiting their annual Rory-Fest featuring the work of a school's head of art.

Rory J Browne, who runs the art department at St George's School, is putting on his sixth show at the A&K Wilson Gallery in Harpenden from next Friday, July 10, until July 25.

The new show features mixed media landscapes of a wide variety of locations from the French Alps to St Ives in Cornwall and is a celebration of the diversity of the environment and the world we live in.

The paint is often applied in thick brush strokes and the rich textural nature of the work is underpinned by spiritual metaphor, often speaking of personal peace and refuge in troubled times.

The paintings can be read as a response to the current fiscal and economic uncertainties as viewed from the perspective of Rory's Christian faith.

Gallery owner Drew Wilson commented: "Our yearly Rory-Fest is always eagerly awaited by our customers; it's become an event on people's social calendar like Wimbledon or the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition."
