A LONG-HELD wish of members to revert to St Albans Town Hall for a summer exhibition has come to fruition.

St Albans Art Society is back in the Town Hall for the 60th anniversary summer exhibition for one week from this Saturday (July 30) and is delighted to be back in the city centre building where passing visitors come in and browse.

Hundreds of paintings and prints will be on display alongside pieces of 3D work covering a wide variety of subjects and media. As well as traditional styles there will be plenty of contemporary and abstract work too.

Among the new attractions this year is an online picture gallery displaying all the work on show at the society’s website www.stalbans-artsociety.org.uk, greetings cards of members’ work and late night opening until 9pm next Friday, August 5, for those who work all day.

Last year the society introduced a new St Albans Trophy donated by former chair Mary Newbery to be presented annually to the artist who best depicts St Albans in an original way.

Steve Rogers with his work entitled A Hard Winter (2010) Old Brickie was the first winner in a category which attracted a number of interesting pieces last year with more expected in 2011.

This Saturday will find the arts society featuring a Local Artists Day in Waterstone’s in St Peter’s Street where members will be giving demonstrations throughout the day and inviting customers to have a go.

The free exhibition at the Town Hall runs until next Saturday, August 6, and more information can be found at the website above.
