New Zealand-born violinist Benjamin Baker will be joining the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra for their first concert of the new season next Saturday, September 26.

He is set to perform Beethoven’s violin concerto as part of the concert which also includes Brahms Fourth Symphony.

Born in 1990 Benjamin moved to the UK in 2008 with his family to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School on the recommendation of Nigel Kennedy. He went on to study at the Royal College of Music.

This year Benjamin released his first CD for Champs Hill Records which immediately went to No. 22 in the classical charts and was featured on Classic FM. He toured as soloist with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company and gave recitals throughout Europe.

As a soloist he has appeared with the Philharmonia Orchestra (conducted by Nicholas Collon), Haydn Chamber Orchestra, Cardiff Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, Orchestra Wellington, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Joven Orquesta de Salamanca, Orpheus Sinfonia and Bath Philharmonia at major venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Bath and Gstaad Festivals.

The concert is being held at 7.30pm at St Saviour’s Church in St Albans and the orchestra will be conducted by Simon Thompson.

Tickets at £13, £11 for students, seniors and unemployed and £3 accompanied schoolchildren will be available on the door or at £11, £9 and £3 respectively in advance from St Albans Tourist Information Centre on 01727 864511.
