Newly-revived award-winning play The Weir is being performed in the village next week by Wheathampstead Dramatic Society.

It can be seen at the Memorial Hall in Marford Road at 8pm from next Thursday, February 18, until Saturday, February 20.

Conor McPherson’s play is set in a bar in County Sligo in the late 1990s where three men regularly meet to talk, drink their evenings away and swap stories.

When a fourth man introduces a young woman from Dublin who has just moved into the area, her presence elicits more tales of ghosts, fairies and strange happenings from the regulars which encourages her to tell a very different and personal story.

The Weir, which was revived in the West End just over a year ago, has become a modern classic and won awards on both sides of the Atlantic.

Director Jan Westgarth, said: “The cast have been working hard on their accents and everyone has responded to the brilliance of the writing. We’re all looking forward to putting this in front of an audience. We can promise laughter and maybe some tears as well.”

Tickets are £10 from Manor Pharmacy, Wheathampstead and Harpenden, online or call 01582 621357.
