In the habit of putting on acclaimed shows, St Albans Musical Theatre Company (SAMTC) is hard at work rehearsing next month’s production Sister Act.

Last November’s run of Hairspray was a sell-out as well as an award winner and the new show promises a large cast together with extravagant sets and costumes.

Sister Act is based on the movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and described by critics as a ‘heavenly joyful… feel amazing musical’. The show is a funny and heart-warming tribute to the universal power of friendship, with wise-cracking diva Deloris Van Cartier using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the failing church choir – while in witness protection disguised as a nun.

Director Alan Cox said: “In the last couple of years, we’ve been able to show the St Albans public how good an amateur show can be. Once again, we’re putting on a brilliant modern musical.”

Sister Act stars Vivienne Ekwulugo as Deloris Van Cartier, Charlotte Gregory as Mother Superior, Lizzie Tatton as Sister Mary Robert, Julian Evans as Curtis and Justin Jeffreys as Eddie. Matt Fowler makes a return to the company as choreographer.

It runs from Tuesday, November 8, to Saturday, November 12, with performances at 7.45pm each evening and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets range from £18.50 to £19.50 with restricted view £10 and concessions available on Tuesday evening and the Saturday matinee, available from the box office on 01727 844488 or click here.
