A regular weekly music night is leaving its current Welwyn Garden City home after seven years and relocating to St Albans.
Herts Jazz Club, which stages concerts at the CW Entertainment complex in The Campus on Sunday nights, will be moving to the Maltings Arts Theatre in St Albans from April.
A Herts Jazz spokesman said: “We of course have a full programme of Sunday gigs running on Sundays in Welwyn Garden City until then.”
The venue switch will also result in a change of concert date, with gigs set to take place every Tuesday evening.
The first concert on April 3 will feature popular US saxophonist Scott Hamilton.
Artists already booked for the new season in St Albans include Claire Martin & Liane Carroll, The Stan Tracey Legacy Octet, Alan Barnes’ Sextet, Zoe Rahman, Dave O’Higgins, Freddie Gavita, Rosario di Rosa and Simon Spillett.
Herts Jazz’s artistic director, award-winning drummer Clark Tracey, said: “We are so pleased to be able to bring the best of British jazz to St Albans.
“The Maltings Arts Theatre is a brilliant space for jazz with a grand piano, capacity for 140 and a great ambience.
“We know that the city has been crying out for regular jazz and we hope to see many newcomers join our regulars for some great music.”
St Albans theatre company OVO took control of the Maltings Arts Theatre in 2011 when it was under threat of closure.
OVO artistic director Adam Nichols said: “Having hosted a series of jazz events a few years ago supported by local promoters FansofStan, we are delighted to continue our close links with the Tracey family and to welcome Herts Jazz to the Maltings Arts Theatre for a weekly evening of top class jazz, starting with the amazing Scott Hamilton on Tuesday, April 3.”
Gigs will start at 7.30pm and finish at 10pm.
There is a bar serving hot and cold drinks, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby for a pre-performance meal.
Herts Jazz promoters have specially negotiated parking in The Maltings car park at £2.50 and there is full disabled access.
Tickets for Herts Jazz gigs at the Maltings Arts Theatre, on Level 2 of The Maltings, will be available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ovo
