FORMER Pakistan Test player Younis Ahmed is looking forward to leading Harpenden Cricket Club to more success in the 2008 season.

Last summer Harpenden secured their place in the Home Counties Premier League with a dramatic late surge, having been promoted in 2006. Younis, who played country cricket for Surrey, Worcestershire and Glamorgan and has played in Australia and South Africa, has now been appointed to manage the first XI on Saturdays, take senior club training on Wednesdays and assist with Colts training on Sunday mornings and Colts matches throughout the week. He will also be available for private coaching. The left handed batsman and bowler said: "I am very excited. I am going to be involved with Harpenden Cricket Club from Mondays to Sundays and will work with David Doyle and the other coaches. They are a very strong club with a lot of potential and I will be looking to contribute my experience having been playing cricket around the world and coaching in countries like Australia, South Africa and England."

Harpenden are again placing their emphasis on young talent for the 2008 season and have added a fifth team, showing the strength of the colts set up. Younis said: "I understand exactly what they want and where they want to be. Youth is where we will be concentrating and it will be a tremendous challenge for me. There is a lot of interest in cricket in the area. I was at St Albans School last year and had a magnificent time there.
