St Dympna's, Luton 1-04: St Colmcille's 4-11 (29/06/08)
St Colmcille's hit form as they took on Dympna's in a must win fixture in the Hertfordshire GAA Senior Football League at Oxhey Park on Sunday.
The recent form of the sides left St Dympna's, from Luton, as strong favourites to take the victory. The Colmcille's squad was boosted by the impressive talent from the flourishing youth ranks under the guidance of Brendan Brennan.
Jason Lohan had another flawless game in defence and Chris Lee marked his inaugural senior game with a few points that he made from nothing. In the second half when Dympna's were rallying Chris soloed down the right wing, beating three players, and hit goalward against a swirling wind and from a tight angle to claim his last point. Another forward giving master classes in soloing was Garvan O'Callaghan. The Dympna's defence were helpless as he scored points and goals with ease.
Former forwards Plunkett McGreavey and Connor Taggart showed a natural flair for the demands of corner backs, allowing nothing or no one to pass them by.
The Cotlandswick side were boosted in defence by new signing Lee who won balls, beat players, passed with accuracy and set up swift counter attacks for players such as Nigel Loughrane and Adrian O'Rourke.
St Albans youth, William Dunston was in outstanding form early in the second half as Dympna's pushed for a goal. They looked set for the breakthrough as the ball hurtled towards the top corner until Dunston somehow guided the ball out for a 45.
Half back Paul Dolan and his Dympna's counterpart were sent off before the end.
The strength in depth that has made Colmcille's the most successful club in Herts/Beds area appears to have returned.
