Yaxley strikes gold

ATHLETICS: LUKE Yaxley reaped the benefit of his positive performance at the national championships by producing a championship best of 8.69secs to claim the U17 60m hurdles gold medal at the Hertfordshire Indoor championships.

Yaxley was joined in producing new standards for the event at the Lea Valley Stadium by both Laura Farrar and Carl Palin.

Farrar landed gold in both the U20 800m (2min 19.71secs) and the 1500m (4 mins 44.56secs), while Palin emerged victorious in the U20 400m (51.21sec).

Gold medals were also won by Tim Buckle (U17 high jump) and Alice Townend (U15 shot putt).

Yaxley also took silver in both the 60m and the 200m, in which he recorded an indoor PB of 23.4 secs, and was joined by a clutch of St Albans AC athletes with second-place finishes.

Emma Clarke also produced indoor PBs for silver in both the 60m (8.62secs) and 200m (27.94 secs).

While Cameron McKey (U17 60m hurdles), Kate Jones (U17 high jump), Catherine Mackintosh (U20 800m), Lauren Dewar (U17 long jump) and Cate Brooks (U15 long jump) were silver medalists.

Laura Nofer (10.25secs) and Gemma Haines (10.46secs) produced new bests to finish second and third in the U15 60 hurdles.

There were bronze medals for both Jodie Haines and Dave Perry in the U17 high jump.

Also taking part in the county championships were Jason Tang, Sean Baccas and Joetta James.
